The Case for Comfort (Without the Guilt)

Nothing is wrong with comfort.

It's a beautiful part of life something to value and something to make space for.

When we feel comforted and grounded, we’re often in a better place to

offer that same care and support to someone else.

But I’ve noticed it’s hard for a lot of people to fully enjoy it. There’s often guilt that sneaks in. Like we’re supposed to be doing more, checking a box, or earning the right to rest.

There’s nothing wrong with discipline, drive, or working hard. But if we don’t let ourselves enjoy the comforts in life, whether they’re small, big, or somewhere in between,

then what are we doing it all for?

Through the years maybe…

you’ve tucked your kids in at night,

made sure your pets have what they need,

or wanted your parents and loved ones to feel cared for and at ease.

So why do we struggle to give that same care and comfort to ourselves?

Lately, I’ve been helping my clients bring more comfort into their daily lives.

We work together to:

  • Figure out what works for them, not what works for everyone else

  • Tailor small shifts to fit their unique routines and needs

  • Experiment with new ideas and see what feels supportive

  • Build a toolbox of options they can lean on throughout the week

We recharge our phones every night, but often run on low ourselves. Our devices have low-power modes, rest modes, and even comfort settings to reduce eye strain.

But how often do we give ourselves that same care?

Especially during change.

Whether you’re working to remove alcohol, shifting a habit, or just trying to feel a little more happy and grounded in a new life chapter...comfort needs to be part of the plan.

It’s one of the best ways to counter those moments when you

feel down, overwhelmed, or unsure.

This is where self-care and comfort overlap.

Here are a few gentle check-in questions you can ask yourself along the way:

Is this helping my stress or adding to it?

For example, think about what you’re consuming. News, social media, or even habits. Are they supporting your well-being or adding to the overwhelm?

What can I do to feel a little more comfort right now?

Small things count. A deep breath, a cozy corner, or stepping away from the noise.

When I do ____, does it add to my energy or deplete it?

Tuning into your energy gives you powerful clues for what to keep, pause, or shift.

Comfort might look like a morning coffee on the porch, or walking without your phone.

It might mean a no-commitments night or giving yourself permission to say no,

so you can say yes to what you need.

These little things matter

They help you reset, refill, and feel more happy and balanced inside

Here are some ways you can build in some comfort right now:

Take the break

Notice what feels good.  Look around at all of your blessings

Being grateful along the way helps too!

Let that be enough, just for today.

You are worth it 💯

Friday the heat finally broke. Yay!

The air was fresh, and I stood outside and just breathed.

A small moment to just take it in and savor the happy feeling.

I felt energized to talk about building comfort into your habit shifts.

so I made this video out on my walk you can👉 watch it here on YouTube
